If you are planning on growing in hydroponics it is very important that you use air stones. By using air stones your plants will grow extremely fast compared to the traditional method of growing by soil. The best hydroponic air stones are the ones that are cylinder in shape like the above picture or the larger circle disk air stones these types last the longest and do not break down as fast as the long stick shape air stones.

How do I start a hydroponic garden for beginners?

Getting started in hydroponics is a lot easier than you may think! It just means that you are growing with out soil and the most common way is in Deep Water Culture or the Kratky Method. Some people will be surprised to find out that the initial costs to start growing in hydroponics is quite cheap. 

Many plants grow very fast in hydroponics with little to no maintenance like lettuce, spinach or other leafy greens.

In the above picture you can see this is a very simple but effect setup and can be put together or built very easily from your local hardware or shopping store. Its just a simple plastic tote with holes cut into it using a hole saw but you can use anything if you do not have access to one. 

I have used scissors starting out that were heavy duty. If you do not have access to a hydroponic store to get net cups which are the other black cups inside the tote you can simply save some plastic cups or ice cream tubs and use those.

The only thing you will need to pick up is a air pump which is pretty cheap you can get one with a hose and air stone for less then $20 that can easily keep this tote going.

You can use hydro ton clay pebbles or coco coir for the medium inside the black cups. This is were you can plant the seedlings when they get big enough, in this set up it does not take look for them to grow. With the use of the air stones and air pump it is pretty wild how fast they grow in 30 days!
